The Big Family Cooking Showdown , oftentimes referred to as simply Cooking Showdown or BFCS, is a BBC team cooking competition. The showtime season was hosted past Not bad British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain and Zoe Brawl. Each week, two teams of iii family members competed in three challenges, judged by Michelin starred chef Giorgio Locatelli and cookery teacher Rosemary Shrager. The winners in each of 8 heats moved on to the semi-finals, consisting of three episodes. The three semi-terminal winners then progressed to the final episode where the winning family unit was selected. The Big Family Cooking Showdown premiered on BBC Two on Tuesday, 15 August 2017, and then moved to Th evenings on 31 Baronial to avoid a scheduling conflict with The Groovy British Bake Off on Channel 4.[1]
On nine May 2018, the BBC announced that the show would render for a 2nd season of fourteen episodes ambulation in a new slot of 7pm. The 2nd season aired multiple episodes per week, outset on xv October 2018. The show returned with a refreshed style and modified format, and without any of the original line-up of presenters or judges featured in the first series. - Round i: The £10 Challenge (1 hour and fifteen minutes): In the £x Challenge, the teams must prepare two courses for four on a budget.
- Circular two: Habitation Visits Challenge (i hour and 30 minutes): Each squad cooks and serves a main course and a dessert for the judges in their own home kitchen.
- Round 3: Impress the Neighbours Challenge (2 hours and xv minutes): The teams returne to the befouled to create their finest starter and a main course, with no budget.[3]
Semi-finals [edit]
- What'southward in the Fridge? tests the families inventiveness as home cooks. The judges provide a limited range of ingredients. Each squad has 1 hour to melt a main course for iv people.
- For the Perfect Puddings challenge, each approximate "carefully select a firm family favourite" for the teams to make in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
- The Nation's Favourite With a Twist claiming asks families "for their unique take on a British classic." The teams have two hours for this claiming.[4]
All 3 challenges were staged in the Cooking Showdown barn.

For the final, the teams faced "one long, continuous challenge." Each family was challenged to "prepare food for a large family become-together, including nibbles, principal courses, and desserts."[v]
Flavour Ii [edit]
The second season was filmed in Wales. [6] All elements of show were shot in a studio kitchen and did not feature a challenge in the contestants' ain homes. A total of sixteen families took function in the competition. There were 14 episodes in total of the 2d season, which were aired across 3 weeks. Up to five episodes would air per calendar week on the weeknights.
In each episode, the teams are given ii tasks - one they have had fourth dimension to practise at home, the other a complete surprise, testing their collective ability to work together and think on their feet.[vii]

In contrast to just 2 families in the start flavour, 4 families take part in each of the 4 heats. However, each heat runs across ii episodes. The remaining three families returned the following day, which ended with one more family existence sent out of the contest. The remaining two families would compete against each other along with two other oestrus-winning families in one of two the play-offs. The winners of the play-offs proceeded to the finals.
- Circular 1: The £10 Challenge: In flavour one this was a pre-prepared challenge. However in flavour ii, the contestants have to make a £10 meal for a family of four with a surprise selection of ingredients 'purchased' in studio, if teams exceeded their upkeep they had to return ingredients.
- Round ii: Nation'south Favourite with a Twist: Each team cooks a popular dish with their own personal accept. Families are enlightened of this dish in advance of the challenge.
- Round 3: The Caput-to-Caput Challenge: in which families have to nominate one fellow member to melt on their own. Near the location, Sally Newall, writing for The Independent said, "Instead of the Bake Off tent, there'southward a barn conversion with a country-kitchen-meets-early on-Noughties warehouse-conversion vibe. Scheduling conflict [edit]
After Channel 4's declaration that they will broadcast The Keen British Bake Off on Tuesdays contrary The Large Family Cooking Prove, the BBC moved the show to Thursday to avoid a scheduling conflict. The BBC said, "Channel 4's decision to move Broil Off from its long-term traditional Wednesday slot will be a surprise to many viewers who may meet this as a cynical move. We never intended for our new cookery show to clash with theirs. There is room for both and we don't, in this instance, come across any public value in two public service broadcasters going head-to-head in this way."
